Perished
This novel of historical fiction, recounts the old and familiar events of the creation of the world, originial sin, and the judgment of the Flood. But Mr. Riddle goes deeper telling the story behind the story. Here you
- experience the burden falling upon Adam as he and Eve are kicked out of the Garden of Eden.
- witness the first murder and its tragic consequences.
- watch the rise of a wicked people.
- observe the increase in knowledge.
- observe the growth of industry, commerce, and science.
- witness the rise of immorality and corruption.
- and be a witness to the judgment of the Flood.
Perished is the first book of The World That Was, a series that is based on factual stories taken from Biblical history. The unfolding drama of sin and the rise of a wicked generation is set in contrast to godly men and women who love God and desire to serve Him. It is a world that turns against the wisdom of God and follows the wisdom of men. A world where violence, idolatry, and corruption dominate. A world where science departs from its roots and opposes God. A world much like today.
Into this world comes a man called Noah. The grandson of the godly king Methuselah, he is called by God to build an Ark. This huge ship is the first of its kind and is designed to be the refuge of mankind. Only eight people end up on that Ark. This book tells us why!
The author, a student of the Bible and of history, weaves a story that is full of adventure, romance, and faith. Many of the characters are taken right from the Bible. Sometimes there are two characters with the same name but totally different characteristics. Based on the first seven chapters of Genesis, the first book of the Bible, Perished brings to life the characters and the events so that the reader can better understand what happened.
Although a novel the story remains true to the facts as originally written in the Scriptures. The reader is invited to search the Scriptures and determine where the author's imagination is unleashed and where the story reflects the truth.
Perished continues to receive 4 and 5 star reviews. While he is pleased at such approval what excites him most is when a reader lets him know that he/she developed a higher appreciation for the Bible itself! No author could ask for a higher compliment.
This first book of The World That Was series, Perished, is a great addition to religious Biblical fiction of Jerry Jenkins, T. David Bunn, and Cliff Graham.

Perished The World That Was edition by R Frederick Riddle Religion Spirituality eBooks Reviews
What an awesome book...even though you know the story, the author brings it alive. I felt I was right there with them living an everyday life. I know the book is fiction, but based on the first six chapters of the Bible. The book begins in the very beginning at the Garden of Eden, with Lucifer tempting Eve and Adam. The name Lucifer brings up images in my mind of ugly, but his name means beautiful one. He wants to have everyone worship him, and thinks the Lord is giving to much to the humans. Lucifer goes about the earth trying to dethrone God!
We follow along from the Fall through the slaying by Cain of Able, deaths of great Men and finally to Noah and the flood. As we know people kept turning their backs on God, and we are shown how they went about worshiping their Idols.
I highly recommend this book, it was an enjoyable read.
I received this book from First Wild Card Tours, and PublishAmerica, I was not required to give a positive review
My Thoughts
I was surprised reading "Perished"; Based on Genesis, "Perished" brings the readers into an awe inspiring look of the events of Genesis, starting first with Creation and ending with Noah.
Filled with drama, intrigue, heartache and capturing what unfolded in the time from when the world was first created to the Great Flood, "Perished" kept me from being unable to put the book down, and hoping for the time to go back to the book, to read what would happen the next.
The characters are identifiable to those who have read and study the Bible, and Mr. Riddle did a wonderful job of giving the people of the Bible a voice and bringing the readers in to familiar stories and wanting to find out what will happen next, though for those who are familiar with God's word, Mr. Riddle, took the familiar and re-created in a different light.
This is not a book for "delicate" readers who are discerning in what they read; Mr. Riddle captures the reality of a ruthless time that started in innocence and till Noah building the ark, became a time of immorality, sin and violence, but it is essential for the story, and brought Genesis, into more living perspective.
The reader will smile, cry, wince and wait with baited breath as the final moments (no spoilers for anyone who has read and is familiar with the story of Noah and his ark) are unfolded to the Great Flood that God sent upon the world.
This book was very exciting, something that I can see the guys would definitely enjoy reading and a book, that I just really had myself mentally going back to what I had read in the bible and lining up the events with the book as I found myself, just not able to find a "good place to stop" reading and instead found myself, unable to put the book down.
As soon as I had finished the book, I was quickly recommending and loaning the book out (with hopes it would come back so I could re-read) and finding myself scouring the libraries for additional copies of Mr. Riddle's work.
"Perished",though there are parts, that vital for the story, may seem untamed, really capture what could have been the thoughts, the emotions and the events, that for this book, led up to the Great Flood.
It help bring an added dimension of going back through God's Word and looking at it, in a different perspective, and wondering....that brings a possible perspective to things.
Although this is a fictional work based on the books in the Bible, "Perished" will have you re-visiting the book of Genesis and even then, open discussions and with it being the summer, be one of those books, you find yourself, unable to put down till your finish and, if you're like me, recommending it to others to read.
***Special thanks to R. Frederick Riddle for sending me a review copy.***

I did not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing this book. While I receive free books from publishers & authors, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. All thoughts & opinions are entirely my own.
A very awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very well written Biblical historical fiction book. It was very easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters to keep track of. This could also make another great Biblical historical fiction movie, or better yet a mini TV series. It was different, & just OK for me so I will rate it at 4/5 stars.
